Appreciation

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, we're smack dab in the middle of winter. Some of us are lucky enough to experience more temperate climates and some of us are really feeling the thick of the cold. It's been a bit grey, soggy and mossy here. The air is crisp and the tall bare trees seem to tickle the sky. I love winter with all it's conjuring of hot liquids and warm foods and bundles of clothing and heavy blankets. In times like this I like to appreciate that it's a good morning, a new beginning and a new day. My heart is pumping, my breathing goes in and out, my cells are knowing just what to do. Nature is going through it's cycle, the ocean always ebbs and flows, and the planets are always in rotation. I know that somewhere above the clouds the sun is always rising and setting. All these things go on without me even having to think about it. And it's pretty wonderful.

Happy Wednesday 💞

Be Easy About it All

Welcome to the first week of 2016 and I've got something big to say about resolutions. We all set intentions or make goals to overcome certain things or make strides to be a better person in some way. Whether you call them resolutions, intentions, growth, goals, improvements or challenges; just remember this - whatever you are seeking... don't take it too serious. We are the only ones that implant the "seriousness" into things that happen in our lives. Without meaning to, we've observed, gathered data, measured, and made statistics of "things to overcome". It's our misunderstanding that in the "overcoming" that we become better people... but guess what? You are already good to begin with. You can never measure your strength or your goodness. Taking action can feel good and sometimes we see results. Inspired action, expansion and all the good stuff that spurs you on is not to be confused with what I'm saying here. I am talking about how resolutions most often come from a place of "feeling not enough" and then you set out to prove your "more-ness" through your effort. Relax into where you are and make the best of it. Then the impulse will strike you.

Remember you are not doing anything wrong. It has to be alright that you are where you are! This is what unconditional love is - to love yourself regardless of the conditions. To get to a place where you laugh at the things that used to make you mad. Your power lies in your mood and your alignment with yourself. You are good. You are enough.

So be easy about it all, ok? :)

Happy Wednesday ❤

Stay Tuned To Your Own Frequency

The holidays are coming up and this can bring up feelings of stress or happiness when it's centered around family gatherings. Some of us are spending it with family and some are not. Some of us have family by blood and some of us have a family of good friends. Who ever you choose to spend your holidays with, make sure you stay tuned to your own frequency. Not everyone is lucky enough to enjoy the company of every family member they spend time with - annoyances can creep in, unkind words said and just general negativity seem to happen to the best of us at gatherings. To keep yourself joining in on the complaining or grumpiness, pay attention to how you feel. All that stuff going on around you won't matter if you take care of yourself and keep your energy up. Maintain your own vibe and care how you feel. ❤

Also - I'm changing the name of my weekly blog. I'm definitely going to still share words of wisdom and art pieces but I'll also be sharing more musings from my sketchbook, maybe even poetry, quotes and some surprises too. My journey here on this blog is all about feeling my way around life just like all of us. Spreading joy is my main purpose and sometimes I just want to draw a bunch of record players, ya know? ;D

So Wednesday's Wisdom will now be called "Happy Wednesday". I hope this vibe will spread over to you each week. Stay tuned for every Wednesday in 2016 and most importantly, stay tuned to your own frequency!

Well Being

The Holiday season has already started for us artists and makers for several weeks now. Holiday shopping and holiday making can create a little bit of stress if you allow it to get to you. Often times your personal well being can easily be forgotten. No matter what kind of stress you're under or whatever is going wrong - you just gotta remember that it's often small in comparison to so much that is right in the world. For instance, the earth is always turning, the sun is always rising, a baby is being born somewhere, friends are meeting up and laughing together, animals are hanging out in their habitat, food is growing, the ocean waves are rolling in and out... I know problems can sometimes seem really really big but remember it's always about what you're choosing as your point of focus. Try to take a few minutes today and set aside your worries. Think of anything that makes you happy like good memories or things you like. Stay focused on the things that make you happy until you feel your energy shift. Your well being is like "a well" and you can always tap into it when you need it.

Happy Wednesday ❤

Happy Thanksgiving

It's that time of year again! Are you ready for Thanksgiving? Hopefully you are all preparing and planning to have a great day off tomorrow. I love Thanksgiving because it's a chance to make great food, eat great food and sit and bask in the appreciation of all good things in your life. So, enjoy your day, your friends and family - and everything about you. Here's a gluten-free pumpkin pie recipe I made recently using a different kind of pumpkin - a Kabocha! It has a strong yet sweet flavor and moist, fluffy texture like roasted chestnuts. It's also called a Japanese pumpkin or Japanese squash and found in the winter squash section of your grocery store. I love this pumpkin because it's smaller to handle with a small amount of seeds to scoop out and you don't need to load your pie up with sweeteners since it's naturally sweet.

Enjoy! ❤
